Custom Clothing for the Holidays 2026: Order Deadlines & Lead Times (Is It Too Late?)

It’s early October, and every brand that wants custom hoodies, tees or merch for the holiday season is asking the same question: is it too late? The honest answer is “it depends on the route”. With a tight plan you can still hit early December with air shipping, but sea freight is mostly out, and skipping samples is the biggest time saver. This guide works backwards from your delivery date using realistic lead times, so you can decide what is feasible and what should wait for a January drop.
The Lead-Time Building Blocks
| Stage | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Pre-production sample | 7β10 days from a confirmed spec, plus courier time |
| Your sample review and approval | 2β5 days, depending on you |
| Bulk production, 50β99 pcs | 12β15 business days |
| Bulk production, 100β499 pcs | 15β18 business days |
| Bulk production, 500β1,999 pcs | 20β25 business days |
| Express courier or air freight | Several days to about a week or more, depending on route and customs |
| Sea freight | Several weeks, not realistic for this season |
Production figures follow the tiers on our wholesale page. Shipping times are indicative only and depend on destination, carrier and customs, so confirm them in your quote.
Working Backwards From a Mid-December Delivery
Say you want stock in your warehouse around 10 December. Here is an approximate timeline for a small order of 50β99 pieces per style:
- By about 10 October: final tech pack and sample request sent.
- By about 20β25 October: sample made and shipped, then approved by you.
- Late October: bulk production starts, which runs roughly 12β15 business days (to mid-November).
- Mid to late November: pack and ship by air, arriving in early December.
It’s tight, and every delay compounds. Larger orders in the 500+ tiers (20β25 business days) leave much less margin and are better planned for later drops.
Ways to Save Time
- Reorder an existing style instead of developing a new one. No new sampling means weeks saved.
- Use a ready tech pack. A clean spec avoids revision rounds. See our tech pack guide and our example tech packs.
- Keep branding simple. Standard print or embroidery is quicker than chenille or multi-process finishes.
- Pick standard fabrics. Custom-milled or special-dye fabrics add lead time. Read our fabric blends guide for choices that are easier to source.
- Approve fast. A same-day sample review can save days.
- Reduce colourways. Fewer colours per style simplifies cutting and finishing.
When to Plan for January Instead
If your order is large, your design is new and complex, or you need sea freight to make the numbers work, aim at a late January or spring drop. Starting sampling now still pays off, because you can approve the product and place bulk early in the new year without losing weeks. It also fits the shift towards smaller, flexible capsule buys that trade guides describe for 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still get custom hoodies delivered before Christmas?
It’s possible for small orders if you move now, approve samples quickly and ship by air. Larger or more complex orders are better aimed at a January drop.
Can I skip the sample to save time?
Only if you are reordering a style you have already approved. For a new design we strongly recommend a finished sample, because fixing a problem after bulk costs far more time than the sample step.
What is the smallest holiday order you can make?
Production starts from around 50 pieces per style, with sampling from a 1-set MOQ.
